Many theologians espouse the popular belief that the gods do not directly interfere in mortal affairs upon Golarion. Such direct action would invite meddling from rival gods, the conventional wisdom goes, which could quickly devolve into a deific war. Yet though the potential risks of such an act are very true, the thought that the gods are in any way barred from taking action is a lie.

From Sarenrae striking a city from the face of the earth to Zon-Kuthon’s involvement with the nation of Nidal, the divine powers of Golarion have acted before to directly mark the world in countless ways since its creation. Some of these acts have been prominently recorded, and even lauded, by priests and religious scholars. Others have long been forgotten, their records lost in disasters, or their memory blotted from history by those who wish to maintain the illusion of a stable future that cannot be shattered by the whim of a malevolent god.

When Earthfall nearly brought about the world's end, the dragon god of destruction, Dahak, sensed an opportunity. Amid the overwhelming devastation on both physical and spiritual levels, with both continents and gods being destroyed, the evil dragon deity found a way to manifest his power directly on Golarion.

Dahak's manifestation ravaged portions of the Mwangi Expanse, burning and destroying everything in his path. The devastating rampage threatened to finish what Earthfall had started—the complete destruction of civilization on Golarion.

Salvation came from an unexpected quarter: the Ekujae elves who lived in the affected regions. With their homeland under siege, the Ekujae fought against Dahak's manifestation with extraordinary courage and sacrifice. Through methods lost to history, these brave elves managed to defeat the dragon god's physical form and banish his essence.

Throughout the millennia since that time, the Ekujae have maintained vigil in the jungles of Mwangi, watching for any sign of Dahak's influence returning to the world. Their oral traditions preserve the memory of this great battle, even as most of the world has forgotten this divine incursion.

The Ekujae's ancient enemy stirs once more, as cultists of Dahak seek to undo what the elves accomplished so long ago. Now your party, having discovered strange connections between these cultists and the portals beneath Citadel Altaerein, stands at the precipice of uncovering secrets long buried—and dangers long contained.
